January / February 2025

WELCOME TO 2025! To another year of “the Great Turning” (Joanna Macy), “the Long Dark” (Francis Weller), and the disintegration of Late-Stage Patriarchy/Capitalism.

My year has begun with the devastating Los Angeles fires – the Eaton Canyon conflagration that burned the city of Altadena, along with my son’s home and recording studio. Since he is an audio engineer, his livelihood was also destroyed.

This tragedy, along with the bizarre and eerie events taking place on the national stage since the presidential scepter was passed to Trump, has awakened in me a sense of the extreme purification we are passing through.

It seems that our ability to “know” anything is more and more dependent upon

technology. It seems that algorithms promote binary kinds of thinking and social media-dependent people whose carefully composed avatars replace their unique essential nature.

Despite, or because of, these challenging times, I am excited about connecting

with the world through my artwork and writing. It may be a tiny input, but I can influence social media algorithms and Artificial Intelligence. Since they depend upon averaging all the opinions out there, I can insert my original ideas and help swing the culture toward more nuanced thinking. Away from simplistic extremes.

My “Call to Action” is for everyone who reads this: please put your written or

spoken thoughts out there for the algorithms to chew on. We need a kaleidoscope of

voices and opinions, to generate a new kind of culture/political scene – one that creates a different future than the one toward which we are currently headed.

To this end, I am connecting more on social media with my writing. I am learning

how to forge relationships with other artists and businesses for mutual encouragement.

It’s a win-win for everyone. So, I am putting my first link to another business right here:

This is Redfin, a Seattle-based realty who seems to have discovered the joys of

Bellingham, to the north. This link is to Redfin’s article about Bellingham sites and

events “not to be missed.” I’ve got a beautiful image in the article myself, so check it out!

From the Redfin Blog: Bellingham is one of those hidden gems that has it all—outdoor

adventures, amazing food, a lively art scene, and a laid-back, local vibe. Whether you’re

a local wanting a break from your Bellingham house or apartment to explore some new

places, or a visitor thinking about renting a home in the area, these unique things to do

are a great way to explore the area. It’s easy to see why this city is such a special spot

to explore—you’ll quickly fall for its charm and the welcoming community.
